There is certainly no shortage of different icon sets on the Internet. Just a quick Google search and you'll find hundreds of icon sets, many of which are open source and 100% free. The problem is that not all icon sets are created equal.
Choosing a good quality icon set can be as time consuming as creating your own custom icons. It is for this reason, TipsMake has compiled the following list of 16 best free icon sets for UI design to help you save your precious time.
1. Untitled UI Icons
1,100+ free essential icons for modern UI design
Untitled UI Icons is a clean, consistent, and neutral icon library created specifically for modern user interface design.
This 100% free icon set includes over 1,100 icons essential for modern user interface design, neatly organized across 19 categories. There are also additional duotone and duocolor styles available at unaitledui.com/icons if you want something a little different.
Untitled UI Icons launched in early June 2022. It was voted #1 product of the Product Hunt of the Week and downloaded over 20,000 times in the first 2 weeks. It is currently the highest ranked icon set on Gumroad and has been retweeted 1,300 times on Twitter. You can use this huge library in as many projects as you like.
2. Feather Icons
287 free icons
Feather Icons isn't the largest set of free icons on this list, but they will always be among our favourites. This free minimalist icon pack was created by Cole Bemis and features 287 simple, beautiful open source icons.
Each icon is designed on a 24x24 grid with a focus on simplicity, consistency, and visibility. If you are looking for a lightweight and extensible icon library that will work in almost any project, Feather Icons is a great choice! It's one of the most popular icon sets in the world.

3. Majesticons
720 free icons on 2 styles (360 icons for each style)
Majesticons is a useful icon set created by Gerrit Halfmann. They include 720 free icons in two styles - Line and Solid.
This icon set is loved for a few reasons. Firstly, they are super minimalistic and consistent, which means they will work well on any type of web design or UI design project. Second, they are clearly created with care by a professional and are easy to customize right in Figma!
If you need more icons in the future, the developer also has an extended icon pack with more than 3,200 vector icons divided into 48 categories (for a fee). It looks great and is done using Figma based on 24px grid system with 2px stroke width.
4. IconScout's Unicons
1,100+ free icons
Unicons is an awesome icon created by the IconScout team. Although the huge icon set of more than 4,500+ Unicons is a paid icon set, the developer has generously released a library of more than 1,100 free icons.
IconScout's free icon set includes over 1,100 carefully crafted icons on a 24px grid with a 1px stroke width. This free icon set is huge, and users especially like how it's streamlined into 27 categories.

5. Heroicons (1.0)
230 free icons
Heroicons v1.0 is an extremely popular and open source icon library created by Steve Shoger, one of the creators of Tailwind CSS.
It includes 230 beautifully crafted and minimalist icons licensed by MIT. Similar to Feather Icons, this icon set won't be the biggest on this list, but is a favorite, as it's neutral and will suit pretty much any project.
Heroicons is also unique in that it includes 2 distinct styles, suitable for many use cases. Outline icons are created with a stroke of 2px thick and designed to display at 24x24px. For smaller use cases like buttons and form elements, this icon set also includes solid icons designed to display at 20x20px.
This attention to detail is what sets Heroicons apart from the hundreds of much larger icon sets not featured on this list.

6. Heroicons (2.0)
292 free icons
After the success of Heroicons v1.0, Steve Shoger released Heroicons 2.0 in August 2022.
The new library has 292 icons that have been completely redrawn from scratch in a new style. Similar to Heroicons 1.0, this icon set includes 2 distinct styles, tailored to each of your use cases. The default outline icons are designed to display at 24x24px and include a new matching block style. For smaller use cases like buttons and form elements, the icon set also includes a smaller mini style designed to display at 20x20px.
One notable difference between versions 1.0 and 2.0 is that the stroke is thinner at 1.5px by default.
Just like Heroicons 1.0, this set is beautifully designed and Steve generously made this icon set 100% free with the MIT license. As mentioned earlier, this new set of Heroicons is not a huge library, but it is extremely high quality and deserves such wide popularity.

7. Iconoir
1,151 free icons
Iconoir is an amazing open source icon set designed by product designer Lucia Burgio. It is fully packed with over 1,100 icons in SVG format, as well as icon libraries for React, React Native, Figma and Framer.
These icons have a super minimalist style. They are ideal for modern user interface design. So much so that Framer integrated them into their design software in June 2021!
Iconoir icon set is 100% free and open source (you can preview each SVG icon on the developer's website). If you find it helpful, you can support the creator on Open Collective.
8. css.gg
704 free icons
css.gg is the only open source icon set written entirely in CSS. It was recently created by frontend developer, Astrit Malsija, who also runs a YouTube channel with helpful CSS tips.
The icon set is well organized and includes 704 free icons available as CSS and SVG. It has proven to be incredibly popular, with even community members contributing Figma and Adobe XD files.
9. Phosphor Icons
6,282 free icons with 6 styles (1,047 icons for each style)
Phosphor Icons is a free icon set designed by Helena Zhang and Tobias Fried. It's a neat, consistent and huge library of 1,047 icons with 6 different styles.
You can download Phosphor Icons as individual SVGs. The team has also released the handy Figma Community file and Figma plugin, as well as the Sketch plugin and NPM settings.
10. Streamline Core Line Icons
1,000 free icons
Streamline Core Line Icons is a huge set of open source icons under the Creative Commons License. This is a huge free library of 1,000 vector icons.
You can download this icon set through the official website. They also have a popular Figma plugin available on Figma Community so you can search for icons without leaving Figma.
This free icon pack is part of Streamline's larger Core Line Icons - Icon Set Pro - the complete icon collection for user interface design, with 2,025 vector icons across 14 categories.
11. Tabler Icons
1,950 free icons
Tabler Icons is a trusted icon set created by web developer Paweł Kuna. They are another great example of a simple and well-designed icon set that is flexible enough and large enough to be used in any project.
The entire icon pack is open source and free to use in the designs. You can even preview what the icons will look like in different stroke sizes and thicknesses through the developer's website.
Tabler Icons is a free and open source icon set, but you can support the creator by donating on GitHub.
12. Ionicon
Over 700 free icons with 3 styles
Ionicons is an open source and MIT licensed icon set, built by the development team behind the Ionic Framework. This icon set includes more than 700 free icons in 3 styles. They also include useful social media icons!
You can download the entire library in SVG format as a .zip. The Ionic team has also released a useful Figma plugin so you can search for Ionicons right from within Figma.
13. Remix Icon
2,271 free icons across 2 styles (1,135 icons per style)
Remix Icon is a set of 2,271 neutral icons in 2 styles.
This free icon pack is maintained by Remix Design - the duo Jimmy Cheung and Wendy Gao. They have generously made this icon library open source, which means that the icon pack is 100% free to use for both personal and commercial use. 14. Eva Icons
480 free icons on 2 styles (240 icons each)
Created by Akveo and the team behind Eva Design Assets, Eva Icons is a set of 480 beautifully designed open source icons in SVG and PNG formats. The developer has also included Figma and Sketch libraries.
The icon set has two main styles, following the principle of minimalism. However, it is important to note that these icons have been converted to outlines. This means you won't be able to customize the stroke thickness or corners, etc.
15. Tetrisly Icons
266 free icons in 3 sizes
Tetrisly Icons is a free icon set created by the team behind Tetrisly. This icon pack is unique as it includes 3 different sizes (16px, 20px or 24px), depending on your needs.
This icon set is 100% free for personal and commercial use under Creative Commons License. You can download the icon set for free through the Gumroad site, which includes SVG, Figma and Sketch files.
16. Doodle Icons
More than 400 free icons
There are hundreds of free icon sets on Figma Community but the one that really stands out is Khushmeen Sidhu's Doodle Icons.
Doodle Icons comes with 400+ handcrafted icons and is 100% free to use for personal and commercial projects under Creative Commons license. What makes this icon set stand out from every other library on the list is its unique hand-drawn style. While it may not be right for every project, it's a great way to differentiate designs and add a bit of personality to creative, fun projects.
