Warning: Crooks can take advantage of adding online information to hijack user numbers
For the convenience of customers, large operators have opened applications that allow customers to check and change mobile prepaid mobile information online. However, this form is being used by a number of people to appropriate users' phone numbers based on the information they provide.
In order to comply with Decree 49/2017 / ND-CP, operators have urgently requested customers to add information (first and last name, ID card, date of issue and place of issuance, .) including information about objects using that subscriber number and a portrait of the subscriber's portrait.
For the convenience of customers, large operators have opened applications that allow customers to check and change mobile prepaid mobile information online. However, this form is being used by a number of people to appropriate users' phone numbers based on the information they provide.
The fraud process takes place as follows:
- Crooks only need to log into MyVinaphone, My Viettel, My MobiFone applications of the network.
- Select any number and ask the application to send the OTP code to that phone number.
- The simpler uses the trash SIM to call the phone number containing that OTP message and impersonate the operator to ask the subscriber to provide OTP code and personal information according to decree 49.
- After cheating the victim to get all the information they need, the scammer will go to the network agent to ask for the phone number to be redeemed, and then sold.
The method of fraud is quite simple but because users are worried about the problem, they will be locked a one-way mobile subscriber if they do not add information and portraits so it is easy to be tricked.
Subscribers should be vigilant, should not provide OTP or any personal information to anyone other than employees at the merchant's stores to avoid losing phone numbers.
