Selling stolen iPhone components, Foxconn workers earned 43 million USD

Defective components are poured out of the company to assemble into fake iPhones.

Foxconn, Apple's Taiwanese manufacturing partner, recently became involved in a fraud investigation. In particular, authorities have discovered a line of iPhone components flowing from the company's factory complex in Zhengzhou.

A trader has covertly cooperated with the management director to take away a lot of defective iPhone components, which should have been destroyed. Later, these defective components were used to create fake iPhones. The incident took place over 3 years, with illicit interest amounting to 43 million USD.

Terry Gou, a Taiwanese billionaire who resigned as Foxconn president last summer, declined to comment. But he later shared that "it's not surprising that unreasonable things can happen to one or two workers, at a company with more than 1 million employees like Foxconn".

According to local reports, it seems that Apple is aware of what's going on. The source said it was likely that a whistleblower had contacted Apple CEO Tim Cook directly, and that the company's own investigation team later joined the review process.

Foxconn Complex in Zhengzhou is the world's largest iPhone factory.

With the worldwide popularity of iPhones, Apple's smartphones are often the target of scammers. Earlier this year, two engineering students from China made nearly $ 1 million when they tried to bring fake devices like iPhones and iPads to the US and tricked warranty at Apple service stores.

Last month, California law enforcement officials also revealed details of the plan involving more than a dozen people plotting to import fake iPhones and iPads into the United States. The plan involved bringing those products to the Apple Store, claiming that they were broken and required the company to replace them with genuine devices.
