Seagate launched BarraCuda SSDs aimed at mass users
Seagate is a familiar name when it comes to storage drives, known as hard drives. Although they are not really absent from the SSD market, they are only targeting the enterprise market. It has been a long time since we have seen SSDs for users usually come from Seagate, until today's BarraCuda SATA SSD.
BarraCuda has fairly modest specs - a popular SATA drive that probably uses NAND 64L 3D flash memory and a conventional DRAM memory controller. The internal structures are also indicative of Seagate's plan in the consumer SSD market: if BarraCuda uses the design of Silicon Motion then Seagate probably doesn't really want to compete in this market; If they wrote their own firmware for Silicon Motion controller or Marvell, then BarraCuda would be a notable rival.
0.3 DWPD Price $ 74.99 $ 119.99 $ 229.99 not clear
The price is only slightly higher than other competitors such as Crucial MX500 or WD Blue - it is also expected that Seagate will not have the advantage of self-producing flash memory (although accounting for a small share of Toshiba Memory). The 5-year warranty and the DWPF 0.3 recording rate are also standard for SATA SSDs for general users.
Seagate is planning to issue limited quantities through Amazon Prime this month, which will then be released in September.
