Nokia brings 4G network to the Moon later this year
According to CNBC, although it has been nearly 50 years since humans have set foot on the Moon, Nokia is preparing to broadcast a 4G network on the Moon later this year using a SpaceX rocket.
The purpose of bringing 4G Internet to the moon is not only to allow astronauts to communicate with each other and carry out new exploration missions, but also to create a premise for human presence.
This plan of Nokia was described by chief engineer Luis Maestro Ruiz De Temino during the MWC event in Barcelona (Spain) last month.
Specifically, the internet network on the moon operates based on a broadcasting station equipped with an antenna and placed in the Nova-C lunar lander.
An LTE connection will be created between the solar-powered rover and the lander.
The lander will be launched into space on a Space X rocket. Once it reaches the White Face, it will land in Shackleton Crater near the Moon's south pole.
According to Nokia, their network is designed and built to withstand harsh conditions in space. The deployment of 4G on the Moon also aims to demonstrate that the Internet on Earth can be used to handle future communications in space such as astronauts communicating with each other, remotely controlling autonomous vehicles, transmitting real-time live video and send data to earth instantly.
And yet, bringing 4G Internet to the moon will promote the opening of commercial human travel to this planet in the future.
Bringing 4G network to the Moon is part of NASA's Artemis I mission to bring humans back to the Moon after nearly 50 years.
