Qualcomm's new chip is exclusively for laptops running Windows 10
The Snapdragon 1000 is expected to have a separate 6.5W power from the CPU, the total power of the SoC is 12W. The Snapdragon 1000 test device has a 16 GB LPDDR4X RAM and a 128 GB UFS flash drive. It also has gigabit LTE connectivity, WiFi gigabit 802.11ad and a new power management driver.
The size of this chip is also large (20x15mm compared to the Snapdragon 850 is only 12x12mm), quite strange for laptop chips, the test system also uses socket-type processors, not welding. Socket chips are quite common on desktop or server computers, but mobile devices are often soldered because it will reduce chip thickness and equipment upgrades are rarely needed.
The chip is likely to use ARM's Cortex-A76 architecture and use TSMC's 7nm process. ARM hopes A76 will have the same power as Intel's Skylake U-Series processor from 2017. With a capacity of 12W, it will have the power corresponding to lower power levels, and despite being quite large with one ARM chip but it is still smaller than Intel's 45x24mm chips.
