Video footage of a Komodo dragon taking down a live baby goat in a split second has left many viewers terrified.

Despite its best efforts, the poor kid still couldn't escape. But instead of tearing its prey apart like most carnivores, the Komodo dragon decided to "swallow" the animal like a python would.

The Komodo dragon took the goat by the head, and in just a few minutes with its sharp teeth and wide open mouth, it finished its lunch.

At the end of the video, the Komodo dragon walks away leisurely while the poor goat that was swallowed alive still makes painful cries in its stomach.

Komodo dragons are the largest living lizards commonly found on the islands of Indonesia. Komodo dragons are fierce hunters, feared by animals.

The Komodo dragon's mouth can open wide because the lower jaw is not fused, but is only loosely connected by an elastic ligament. This allows them to easily swallow large prey.

Despite their large bodies, with a maximum body length of 3m, and a weight of about 70kg, they can reach speeds of about 20km/h. In addition to running fast, Komodo dragons can also dive 5m deep in water, and climb trees like other lizards, so their hunting efficiency is quite high.

However, in most cases, Komodo dragons just ambush and then launch lightning-fast bites instead of chasing their prey. Because their saliva contains 50 different types of bacteria that cause their prey to collapse.
