HMD Global plans to launch a global data roaming SIM card, saving up to 70% on costs
HMD Global is the manufacturer behind the revival of the Nokia brand, and has created a series of Android smartphones that have been quite well received since the fate of Windows Phone has been arranged. With the Nokia brand flying high again, the company seems to be starting to look for the next market, and it seems that HMD Global wants to start training as a mobile operator.
Specifically, an application called "HMD Connect" has just quietly appeared on the Play Store, and according to the description as well as the introduction image, it can be guessed that the Finnish company wants to focus its efforts on providing provide mobile data packages (only for web surfing, do not support calling and calling) for the number of users traveling frequently between countries around the world.
While many details, including the exact price, remain a mystery, few words in the Play Store's app description clearly state the company's goals for launching the app: " HMD Connect is a data SIM for wherever you go. Save up to 70% on data roaming in more than 120 countries . "
HMD Global also revealed that the data plan will start at 9.95 Euro, although screenshots on the Play Store also revealed that 1GB data plan can cost up to 14.95 USD. Perhaps this price varies quite a lot depending on where you need the Internet to be.
There is also the possibility that the service will include a VPN as per the Play Store information: "Your data is always anonymous and safer than before". The company also revealed that the app will allow you to manage data plans, view the amount of data used, and order a few more SIM cards if desired.
At the moment, information about this service is still quite rare. When you install the application, you are required to log in or purchase a SIM card from the HMD Connect website, but ironically this website has not yet been launched.
The app may be pre-installed on future Nokia phones, but given the fact that it works well on the Pixel 3 XL without a problem, the service is likely not just unique. rights on HMD devices - a SIM card for car navigation in the image on the right shows that the possibility of that happening is very high.
We also do not know where HMD will distribute and promote our data package. In the application description, the packet price is expressed in Euros only, so it may initially be exclusive in Europe.
