Warning: Fake Sora 2 versions flood the App Store
OpenAI's Sora 2 app is only available in the US and Canada, but App Store users globally are facing a slew of fake apps.
OpenAI's Sora 2 app has only been launched in the US and Canada, but App Store users around the world are facing a number of fake apps trying to cash in on the AI's huge appeal.
According to reviews, Sora 2 is currently ranked 9th in the App Store's 'Top Photo & Video Apps'. However, despite its position in the top 10, Sora 2 is still not a name with strong growth.
A quick search for 'Sora 2' turns up about a dozen apps, all named after OpenAI's new product. One even spoofs OpenAI's logo, while another lists Google's Veo 3 model in its subtitle. All offer in-app purchases, and some even offer a hefty weekly subscription.
This situation is not too new or surprising, as there are many such fake applications. However, since many people do not know that the official OpenAI Sora 2 application is currently only available in the US and Canada, it is understandable that global users are confused and even pay for fake copies.
