Black Myth: Wukong steals the record from Cyberpunk 2077
Black Myth: Wukong has continuously broken all records, quickly making it to the list of best-selling games on Steam and becoming the single-player game with the highest number of players in history on this platform.
The previous record belonged to Cyberpunk 2077, which peaked at 1,054,388 players in 2020, but now Black Myth: Wukong has surpassed that number within just a few hours.
After being announced back in 2020 and gaining a lot of attention, Black Myth: Wukong finally officially launched on August 20 on PlayStation 5 and PC.
While players were excited to think that this new action RPG would also be available on Xbox systems, developer Game Science disappointed fans by announcing just two months before launch that Black Myth: Wukong will be "delayed" on Xbox Series X/S. Currently, there is no specific release date for the Xbox version, but Game Science said the delay is because the game has not met the standards set by the studio on Microsoft's system.
With a series of mostly positive reviews, it's no surprise that Black Myth: Wukong soon broke records on Steam. In less than 24 hours since its launch on the platform, Black Myth: Wukong has risen to become one of the games with the highest number of players on Steam, peaking with more than 2 million players. at the same time, according to SteamDB. In terms of the current number of players, Black Myth: Wukong is ranked number one, surpassing Valve's famous names such as Counter-Strike 2 and Dota 2.
Although some titles like Palworld have seen a larger increase in player numbers than Black Myth: Wukong. But if compared specifically, Palworld is a multiplayer game, while Black Myth Wukong is only a singleplayer game. Although it is not yet capable of surpassing PUBG's 3 million players, Black Myth Wukong has set a record for reaching a large number of players in just a short period of time for a single-player game. This record previously belonged to Cyberpunk 2077 .
That's not even including the number of players on PS5, but if the number is the same or equal to 1/2, it's clear that Game Science is holding a new phenomenon. Although there are still some strange and controversial restrictions for streamers, we still have to admit that Black Myth Wukong is still shaping up to be one of the games that are causing a stir in 2024.
