Aura: Koga Maryuin's Last War

Ichiro Sato is a high school student who used to suffer from delusions of grandeur and fantasy, which he satisfied by dressing up as an alter ego named Maryuuin Koga. This caused him to be bullied and ridiculed by his classmates. Now, Ichiro tries to become a normal student and forget his past self. However, after seeing a girl named Ryoko Sato who also has the same delusions as him, his teacher asks him to help her. He initially refuses, but changes his mind after seeing her being bullied and decides to help her by dressing up as the person he truly wants to be.

The movie isn't about cosplay, but it does have some elements of it since Ichiro and Ryoko dress up as the characters they created. Similar to how cosplay helps some people become more confident and escape reality for a while, Ryoko and Ichiro used their characters to become different people.

Cosplay Complex

Cosplay Complex is one of the few anime about cosplay, this show follows a group of girls and their cosplay club at school. They have few members, no sponsors, and are on the verge of shutting down. Despite this, the girls still share a love of cosplay, working hard to make costumes for competitions.

Cosplay Complex is only three episodes long and is easy to watch. While it is primarily about cosplay, it also explores a few other things in otaku culture. The show is intended to be more of a parody and comedic piece than a deep story.

Wotakoi: Love Is Hard For Otaku

Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku doesn't delve too deeply into the world of cosplay, but it does give a pretty good introduction to it. Hanako Koyanagi is passionate about cosplay and is known as a popular cosplayer on the show. She's good at cosplaying male characters as well. Hanako tries to get her boyfriend Kabakura and her friend Narumi involved, but they're reluctant for their own reasons.

Genshiken

Genshiken is an anime that is more about otaku culture, similar to Wotakoi. It follows a group of college students who form their own otaku club called Genshiken. Kanako Ohno is the group's main cosplayer, and the main attraction of the club at student fairs. She is normally soft-spoken but is extremely passionate about cosplay and talking about yaoi. She develops a relationship with Souichirou Tanaka, another cosplayer and costume designer in the club.

The anime is about otaku culture in general, but it's great to see the relationship blossom between the two cosplayers. It's not every day that a couple shares similar interests like this, so it's fun to watch the relationship develop.

Nurse Witch Komugi (And Nurse Witch Komugi R)

This anime is about a cosplayer. Komugi Nakahara works at a talent agency and often promotes products while wearing costumes. She dreams of one day becoming a cosplay idol but is considered a bit silly by her management at the agency. After Ungrar, the Virus King, escapes from prison, he turns her friend Koyori into a Magical Maid who spreads infectious diseases. Komugi is chosen by Maya, the Goddess of Vaccine World, to be a Nurse Witch to stop Koyori from spreading diseases. This anime is a parody of magical girl anime and The SoulTaker.
