Microsoft is starting to launch a new set of application icons on Windows 10, designed to modernize the operating system's interface. Updates for a range of built-in Windows 10 apps are now available for Windows 10 Fast Ring users, with new app icons following Microsoft's Fluent design guidelines. In December last year, the company revealed hundreds of new icons for Windows 10, and all of them are much more colorful and modern than the existing icons in the current operating system. now on.
Calculator, Groove Music, Mail, Voice Recorder, Alarms & Clock, Movies & TV, and Calendar are the first built-in apps to receive a new set of icons. Many other applications will soon receive corresponding icons in the near future. Microsoft also plans to refresh apps such as Photos from the current basic white logo to more colorful new logos.
New icons for Mail and Calendar are also being released on the Windows 10 Release Preview channel, meaning that it will only be a few days before anyone using this operating system will receive the update.
New icon set for Windows 10
This new symbol change is part of the Fluent design that Microsoft uses to modernize its software and services. All of the new icons will appear on Windows 10X, an operating system designed specifically for dual-screen devices. Windows 10 on traditional laptops and desktops will undoubtedly be refreshing, but it's unclear if we'll see the Windows logo or the new Start menu design.
In the past, Microsoft has also overhauled Office's icons and designs, with new icons for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and other applications. These design changes are also present on mobile versions of Office, because Microsoft has also brought Fluent design to many of its mobile applications. The new Edge web browser also has a new icon, and even the Office suite itself has a more modern logo.
