A programmer writes an operating system to communicate with God through computers
Terry Davis, a schizophrenic programmer who wanted to show his love to God spent more than 10 years building the TempleOS operating system. Terry Davis is the founder and sole employee of Trivia Solutions
The operating system's command line interface is quite similar to MS-DOS in the beginning. On startup, the dark screen will appear and then switch to blue and white. Included is a picture of a double balance and a sword with the words "God on tap" right below.
This TempleOS welcome screen also introduces common features in this operating system including: pressing F7 to call up the talk function, pressing Shift-F7 to insert a passage.
In TempleOS stork has the Jukebox program, which stores a collection of melodies with words inspired by the Bible.
Explaining the cause of construction, TempleOS and Davis said that it was God who told him to do so. According to the description of the operating system, TempleOS is "the official temple of the Lord, where the community can make pleas and the Lord's transmission given down."
Terry Davis has worked full time for more than a decade to complete TempleOS. By 2013, TempleOS was officially released with more than 120,000 lines of code, equivalent to Photoshop version 1.0. So far, Davis has continuously added some small details to TempleOS to make the temple of God perfect.
And the fact that TempleOS has only 16-color graphics, 640x480 resolution is also due to his God, because that is more than enough for children to easily create drawings about God.
Davis also built a shrine named AfterEgypt inside TempleOS, allowing users to climb Mt. Horeb with a Moses stick. Before climbing the mountain, the user will have to write Lord's hints. On the top of Mt. Horeb has a continuous color changing object like the image of a burnt tree.
In addition, in TempleOS there are a number of small games like Castle Frankenstein, a first-person shooter and especially Eagle Dive, a software that emulates an eagle to catch fish.
Some games are programmed by Davis in TempleOS.
The fate of the builder of TempleOS
Davis used to work as a programmer at Ticketmaster and Arizona but due to schizophrenia, he lost his job and had to stay home with his parents to save money. Davis had the idea of building an operating system to communicate with God since 2003. Based on his experience, Davis corrected and removed some code to make TempleOS as simple as possible.
Davis was banned from participating in many Reddit forums or Hackernews because of his schizophrenia and his religious obsession. Even in 2017, after many arguments with viewers, Davis's livestream account on YouTube to introduce TempleOS is also prohibited. His life with his parents was also difficult, he was eventually evicted and had to live on a van in late 2017.
TempleOS operating system was first released in 2013. By 2017, TempleOS receives another update and it is also the final version. Davis died on August 11, 2018, in a train accident. In his last video posted hours before his death, Davis said he deleted most of his livestream videos because he did not want to cause "junk" for the Internet.
