5 Sci-Fi Movies Coming Out in 2025 That You Can't Miss

Science fiction is one of those genres that you can explore in so many different ways as a storyteller. From sci-fi films that make you question your own reality, to futuristic space operas that are grounded in reality and filled with character dramas, there's enough variety to keep you from getting bored. Maybe that's why people spend more time than necessary searching for great sci-fi films that few people talk about.

While exploring sci-fi from the past is fun, the upcoming films have a lot of potential. And even though 2025 is coming to an end, there are still plenty of surprisingly compelling sci-fi movies set to come out before the year is out.

Tron: Ares

The long-awaited third part is almost here.

Admittedly, many people were a little hesitant to get into Tron: Ares until now, because it looks so different from the other films in the series. The lack of any characters from the previous film, Tron: Legacy, was also a bit disappointing at first. However, people were also curious to see where this latest film would take the franchise, especially since much of it seemed to take place in real life.

The movie will be in theaters on October 10.

Frankenstein

The latest adaptation of Mary Shelley's book looks fantastic

This time, another Frankenstein adaptation will be directed by the talented Guillermo del Toro. The acclaimed filmmaker has been trying to make this film since 2007, and it has taken a long time to complete. If anyone can finally capture the spirit of the book, it is del Toro.

Basically, if you're looking for an A-list cast to accompany the sci-fi genre, this is the movie for you. Frankenstein will premiere on Netflix on October 17.

Bugonia

Another fantastic sci-fi film from Yorgos Lanthimos

Bugonia might seem like one of those movies that isn't really science fiction, depending on where you're going. However, it has a great premise, and it's powered by the signature style of absurdist filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos. A remake of the 2003 South Korean film "Save the Green Planet!", Bugonia centers on Teddy (Jesse Plemons) and Don (Aidan Delbis), two conspiracy theorists who kidnap Michelle (Emma Stone), a pharmaceutical executive they believe is an alien intent on destroying Earth.

Bugonia will be in theaters on October 24.

Predator: Badlands

The latest installment in this long-running series looks to be the most epic yet.

When director Dan Trachtenberg revived the Predator series with Prey in 2022, many were excited about its promising future. That excitement only grew when Trachtenberg released the animated film Predator: Killer of Killers in mid-2025. And now, we're getting what could be the biggest installment in the series yet: Predator: Badlands.

Predator: Badlands will launch on November 7.

Avatar: Fire and Ash

The third film in James Cameron's epic looks to be the most ambitious yet.

Many people don't necessarily think of James Cameron's Avatar films as his best, but they do appreciate their visual brilliance. The sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, is a visual feast, even more so than the first. But even its story is more compelling than the original, and hopefully that trend continues with Avatar: Fire and Ash.

Avatar: Fire and Ash hits theaters December 19.
