Tesla drops Steam gaming support in its electric vehicles
Tesla is telling new Model S and Model X buyers that they will not have access to Steam games inside their electric vehicles.
Although Tesla has invested heavily in integrating video games into its car entertainment systems, it still surprised many people when Tesla said earlier this year that it planned to go further. is integrating Valve's Steam, an online video game store and distribution platform, within its vehicle.
Steam has a huge library of games, including high-performance games that have never been integrated into Tesla cars before. At the end of 2022, Tesla officially launched the Steam Beta native application on new Model S and Model X vehicles.
However, now Tesla is dropping this feature. The automaker informed recipients of the new Model S and Model X vehicles:
Tesla is updating the gaming computer on the Model X and your car will no longer be able to play Steam games. All other entertainment and application functions are unaffected.
It appears the current owners are not affected by the change.
Tesla is known to remove existing apps on new vehicles while keeping them on delivered vehicles, such as the Disney Plus app.
This change is not very surprising. While it's an interesting idea, if you want to play games inside your Tesla, you're better off using a portable gaming device, whether it's a gaming laptop, a Steam Deck, or something else. similar.
Some very interesting games inside the Tesla, but it's still a limited gaming device nonetheless. Perhaps Tesla saw that very few people were using Steam in their cars, so they removed this function.
