Surprisingly, good looking too badly affects your career
According to research by scientists at the University of London School of Management and the University of Maryland in the US, being too handsome will adversely affect men's career. Specifically, the results of this study show that handsome men are more likely to be considered a threat to their employers, so advancement in careers is also affected.
This result comes after researchers conducted surveys in four separate office areas. Research shows that the boss's decisions will be negatively affected by the attractiveness of each male candidate. Handsome guys are often considered 'competitors' should be assigned less important jobs or positions. And research also shows that this phenomenon does not happen to women.
The research team leader said that in fact many companies do not have the potential candidates because of managers affected by the stereotype and based on their own interests to make decisions. Many of these companies choose to recruit employees through an intermediary recruitment company to avoid distinguishing their appearance and having the best employees.
The results of this study were published in the Organization Behavior and Human Decision Processes in 2015.
Actor Rob Lowe once complained that he could hardly go far in his career because he was so handsome in the New York Times in 2014. He said: ' Many people think that being handsome as I live superficially, shallow and unbearable. Obviously there is bias and prejudice against handsome people. '
