David Casarez grew up in a border town near Laredo, Texas, and graduated from the Texas A & M University's School of Information Management. He later became a web developer at General Motors in Austin.

With a dream of starting a business, David withdrew 401-K benefits to Silicon Valley. But in June, David ran out of money, almost no money and had to live in his 2015 Ford Transit van for over a year now.

David said he was unemployed and had an interview with Apple last December but failed.

David does some freelance work like web design, logo to make a living. But since David's car and accommodation were confiscated more than a month ago, he had to sleep in a park in Mountain View, California.

On Friday, David Casarez woke up in a bench outside the park and decided to dress neatly with a shirt, tie, hugged a handwritten sign and a stack of FedEx envelopes to the nearby highway. .

Just simple as that. David said he had to do something to change his current life and look for his opportunities but still have to keep himself. And this action was David's last attempt, if he didn't succeed, he would go home and give up his dream.

David held that sign standing on the street of El Camino and San Antonio for a few hours. David's actions attracted the attention of the driver Jasmine Scofield when he happened to pass by. She stopped and asked if she could take pictures and post them online. David agreed.
