Pentnt command in Windows

Pentnt commands will not be accepted and are not guaranteed to be supported in future releases of Windows.This tool is used in Windows Server 2003 as follows:

Detectfloating point division errorif available in Pentium chip, disablefloating pointhardware and enable floating point simulation.

Pentnt command syntax

 pentnt [-c] [-f] [-o]

Enable conditional simulation.

-f

Enable required simulations.

-o

Disable required simulations and re-enable floating-point hardware if available.

/?

Show help at the command prompt.

Note

  1. The parameters used with this command must be prefixed - (hyphen) instead of / (slash).
  2. Using the -c command line option, floating point simulation is only applied if the comma division division detection system is active in the Pentium processor at boot time.If you select this parameter, you must restart the computer for the changes to take effect.
  3. Using the -f command line option, floating-point hardware will be disabled and floating-point simulations are always required to be enabled, regardless of whether the system displays a floating-point division error of Pentium processors or not.This parameter is useful for testing software emulators and for working with floating-point hardware errors known on the operating system.If you select this parameter, you must restart the computer for the changes to take effect.
  4. Use the -o command line option.If you select this parameter, you must restart the computer for the changes to take effect.
