What is Riot ID?

Riot ID is the name displayed in games like League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, Legends of Runeterra, Valorant, and Wild Rift, as well as future Riot Games games. Unlike the username of the Riot Account, the Riot ID is displayed in the game.

Riot ID consists of two components: the name in the game and a hashtag of 3-5 digits or letters. The characters after the hashtag will not show up in the game, but will show up on your friends list when hovering over a friend's name. Since both the header and the hashtag don't have to be unique, as long as the two combine into a name that doesn't overlap, it's easier to pick a name to display in the game. As a result, even when transferring the Hero's Name to Riot ID in League of Legends, you do not have to change your name in the game.

Players can use Riot ID to load games as well as search and make friends with other players.

How to create new, change Riot ID

You can set a new Riot ID or change to a different one by following these steps.

Visit your Riot Games Account Page HERE.

Proceed to login your Riot account.

At the RIOT ID section, you will need to enter the ID you want in the two boxes RIOT ID and TAGLINE.

After you have selected a satisfactory ID for your account, click SAVE CHANGES to complete the creation/change of ID.

Note that you can change this ID completely free of charge every 30 days.

Is Riot ID a replacement for the Hero Name in the game?

Up to now, the transition from In-game Hero Name to Riot ID has not been applied. Because League of Legends is a game with an extremely large number of players, the transition will not be easy. However, with a hashtag at the end, your name will become a unique name globally while preserving the character name that has been with you for a long time.

It can be said that when switching to the hashtag system, you can use any name you like in the game, but still have to follow the rules. Since your name and hashtag need not be unique, you are spoiled for choice.
