Plot of Mufasa: The Lion King

This Lion King prequel will focus on Mufasa's past, exploring his relationship with Scar and how the two brothers became great rivals. With Scar revealed to be Harrison's "sweetest young lion," audiences will certainly learn more about his path to villainy. Additionally, the film could also show how Mufasa develops a relationship with Sarabi.

According to director Barry Jenkins, the new Lion King film is more than just a prequel, and it's been suggested that the film's story will be told in a similar way to The Godfather Part II, with two parallel timelines. This means Mufasa: The Lion King could tease Simba's new position as king of Pride Rock, while also showing how his legendary father came to hold that role.

Mufasa: The Lion King Highlights

Mufasa and Scar's relationship is the most attractive point of the movie.

The reason why Mufasa and Scar's relationship from brothers to enemies has made viewers curious since the previous Lion King versions, so the story in Mufasa The Lion King is highly anticipated by the audience. The director also excellently told the story of these two brave lions.

Stepping into Jones's legendary shoes is no easy task, but Pierre voices Mufasa with a youthful gravitas that perfectly suits the lion who will one day be King of the Jungle. You can hear Jones's presence in the performance, which only deepens the portrayal of the character. Taka also becomes a more compelling character, as viewers watch him grow from a lovable, straightforward lion as a child to fighting alongside his friend Mufasa in many battles, and then eventually becoming enemies.

Beautiful movie images

If the story structure and characterisation of Mufasa: The Lion King sometimes falters, the gorgeous visuals and resonant soundtrack make up for it. One of the biggest problems with the 2019 Lion King stems from the fact that the digitally-animated characters can't express emotion the way their animated counterparts do, making some moments feel strangely lifeless. Here, Jenkins and his team have improved the animation, giving each character their own distinct, soulful personality that really pops.

The original Lion King soundtrack is still a masterpiece to be reckoned with, and while Mufasa hasn't quite surpassed it, the film itself has plenty of catchy songs, thanks to Lin-Manuel Miranda. With the help of veteran Lebo M., Miranda brings his infectious melodies and upbeat lyrics to the film, creating a soundtrack that's just as memorable as the original.
