How to view EXIF data of photos on iPhone, iPad

The Photo Investigator app for iOS lets you quickly and easily view EXIF metadata of captured photos.

What is EXIF data?

The EXIF data of the photo contains a lot of information about your photo. Each photo taken with a mobile phone or digital camera in addition to actual image bits contains a lot of metadata embedded in the image file. This information indicates the location of the photo (if GPS is enabled), the camera is used, the date and time the photo was taken, the size and format of the image file, etc. That's EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format). Most digital cameras automatically record this data unless you disable it.

Metadata is useful for finding photos from a recent vacation or determining when you took a picture. However, this data also provides quite a lot of information about your personal habits and where you live. You should edit or delete sensitive metadata before sharing photos online.

Currently, iOS does not have an integrated feature to view metadata, so you need to use a third-party application. The Photo Investigator app for iOS lets you quickly and easily view EXIF metadata of captured photos.

How to view image metadata on iPhone or iPad

In image metadata viewing applications, Photo Investigator is the most free and easy to use application. This application is also constantly updated and improved by developers. With the free version, you can only view the metadata of the image. To edit or delete metadata, you need to buy a free version for $ 2.99.

First, download the Photo Investigator application from the App Store.

After installing, open the application. On the next screen, click the icon in the lower left corner.

The pop-up window asks you to grant photo access to Photo Investigator. Click 'OK'.

Next you will see a list of all albums. Click the album and select you want to see metadata. Photos with GPS data are marked with a globe icon in the upper right corner of the image.

Click on the green icons at the bottom of the image to see each metadata category. The 'i' tab displays general information, including file size, format and name. The globe tab shows the location of the captured image. The clock tab shows the shooting time. The camera tab shows the cameras used to capture images, including shutter speed, ISO, aperture and camera type. And the speech tab displays the caption of the image (if any).

To see the full list of metadata, select Metadata > View All at the bottom of the screen.

All image metadata will display on the screen. You can also arrange and view photos by location. Click on the map icon at the bottom of the main screen of the application.

Next, on the map you will see all the places you have visited and the number of photos you have taken there (you must turn on GPS on iPhone). Click on the numbered bubble icon to view photos from that area.
