Unlike most fighting game special moves, these start out as mere accidents during gameplay, much like the aftermath of basic motion controls.

Get out of the grip

One of the most frustrating things about playing Gang Beasts is not being able to get rid of an opponent that is holding on and never letting go. However, there are still effective ways to get rid of this inhibition.

Sometimes players don't want to let go because the opponent might be trying to throw them off the field. In that case, adopt some tactics that have extremely close range and the ability to reposition yourself.

Spam the jump button

One of the easiest ways to get out of a hold for too long is to quickly press the jump button. While there's no guarantee of escaping an enemy, leaning in different directions and repeatedly pulling away will force the opponent to let go, giving the player a second to reposition and gain the upper hand.

Headbutting

A great move to pull enemies at close range is headbutting instead of punching. Different play devices have different headbutting controls, so be sure to find out which button is in the settings to easily get out of the grip. Sometimes, this move will knock out enemies in seconds, making it one of the Gang Beasts special moves.

Jump down with your opponent

In Gang Beasts, a reasonable strategy against a player better than you is to destroy both yourself. Just jump off the edge with the enemy to take down. It will result in a draw and it is likely that the next map will give the player an advantage.

While this isn't the way to win a round, it's a great way to demoralize your opponent and avoid losing at least one other game.

Throw the opponent

Gang Beasts is a far cry from a traditional fighting game, so throwing players down or over something is essential to win levels like Ring or Grind.

To do this, the opponent being thrown must be unconscious. This trick can be performed on a conscious person, but is more difficult because they can punch back.

From there, just hold down both punch buttons to grab your opponent, use the lift button to lift, and release the punch button to throw anywhere you want. There is some momentum that can be useful when making an opponent throw.
