Could Life-Like Robots Ever Be Seen In The Live Casino Space?
In the current age, robots have been used to help people be more productive. As also the case with manufacturing, casinos and particularly live games has been an area where robots could be helpful.
It is important to firstly establish the starting point for such developments to jump off from. The current state of the online casino space lends itself to the current fact that players can play live casino games at Paddy Power, as with other areas. Their motivation for this is the fact that a live-streamed game offers something closer to reality and is a more immersive experience than playing what is fundamentally a computerized version of a classic table game, such as blackjack or three-card poker.
A key part of the realism and immersion offered up by live casino games comes from the fact it is possible to interact with the dealer through the chat function. This is as well as that things appear a lot truer to life than the usual suite of options.

However, this status quo could be changing in the years to come. A focal point for technological development within the last, and indeed the next few decades, is the development of artificial intelligence and robotics.
Two of these developments can fuse in the development of life-like robots with a certain degree of sentience. The idea of having a robot with that degree of sentience has long been the focal point for the Turing Test, a test developed by pioneering computer scientist and mathematician Alan Turing in a bid to attempt to find the difference between computers and human activity. If such a robot were to be implemented into live game spaces, it would be integral for them to not only pass the Turing Test but also be able to hold a conversation in part with any players.

There are some limitations at the current moment with whether life-like robots could be introduced to live casinos in the short term. The obvious constraints exist around the actual development paths of robotics and AI specifically; there are only a handful of actual robots in development that have the ability to recognize people and form a dialogue. For any further proof, the idea of life-like robotics is only a long term goal in the eyes of developers.
There is also the question of acceptance, or rather how well-implemented these life-like robots would be within the context of live casino games. It has to be explored how kindly players would take to them. The point surrounding live games is that they're based on the point of realism. Introducing a robot in the place of an actual dealer detracts from the true sense of a live game altogether.
It is worth noting that it is some years off before lifelike robots are within mainstream society, let alone in online casinos and live games. If the pace of innovation is as quick as it has been for the last few years, there's no reason why they couldn't be trialed in such spaces and make an impact in the next decade.
