Copilot Studio provides models from various vendors to your agents. See the list of available models in Copilot Studio .
- Anthropic : Anthropic is a Microsoft subcontractor operating under Microsoft's supervision through contractual safeguards and appropriate technical and organizational measures.
- Mistral : Mistral models are hosted outside of Microsoft and are subject to Mistral's terms and data processing procedures. Administrators must review and accept these terms before creators can use the models. These models are available before official release so you can access them early and provide feedback.
- xAI : xAI models are hosted outside of Microsoft and are subject to xAI's terms and data processing procedures. Administrators must review and accept these terms before creators can use the models. These models are available before their official release so you can access them early and provide feedback.

- External models tagged as preview or test should not be used for production purposes. You may experience slowdowns or errors due to limited capacity and accessibility, and these models may not be supported in the future. Administrators can control access to this feature. Test and preview models are subject to review terms. These models are provided before the official release so you can access them early and provide feedback.

Choose an external model for your agent.
- Access the agent's Overview page .
- In the Model section , select a model belonging to Anthropic, Mistral , or xAI.
You can switch between different model types at any time.
If external models are displayed but you can't select them, it could mean your administrator has removed access to those external models. If an administrator removes access to an external model after initially allowing its use, agents using that model will switch to a different, compatible internal model. If no compatible model exists, the agent will report an error, and the creator must change their model to the internal model.
If you can access external models but the model you want to use doesn't appear in the model selector, your administrator may need to enable external models in the Microsoft 365 admin center.
Administrator control and requests over external models
Administrators control whether users can add external models to the agent. To grant access to external models, administrators must perform the following actions:
- Enable external models in the Power Platform admin center for an environment or group of environments.
- Allows access to each external model vendor within the Microsoft 365 admin center.
Preview models and external models are two distinct sets that may overlap but are not identical, and their implementations are separate. For example:
- Administrators can block external models but allow preview or experimental models. In this case, users cannot use external models but can use available preview, experimental, and internal models.
- Administrators can block preview or test models but allow external models. In this case, the manufacturer cannot use any preview or test models, but can use any available external and internal models.
