Beijing just opened a new airport with the world's largest waiting station
And recently, that phrase has been repeated, this time for the world's largest airport in the city of Beijing.
This second airport, named Daxing, is nicknamed "starfish airport". It was built to help tackle the increasingly complex traffic situation in the skies over the capital, and is expected to host 72 million passengers by 2025.
The airport is nicknamed "Starfish" and has the largest waiting station in the world neatly nestled in a building.
The new airport is located 46 km south of Beijing city center, with an area of 700,000 square kilometers, of which the yard area surrounding the waiting station is 80,000 square kilometers. Although newly opened, it is planned to expand it to serve up to 100 million passengers per year in the future.
The main station station building was completed on June 13, round 4 years after starting construction. It has 4 separate floors designed to separate and coordinate the number of passengers coming and going. The waiting area has a large, luxurious shopping area, and many cafes.
At the end of each corridor there are even five traditional Chinese gardens so that passengers can enjoy peaceful moments while waiting for the plane. The architecture of this waiting station building also adheres to traditional Chinese architectural principles: arranging small structures around a central courtyard.
This special design allows the maximum number of aircraft to be parked at very close distances from the station waiting area, so that the walking distance of passengers from the station to the aircraft will be reduced to a short amount. possible.
