To know your biological age, check your urine sample
Knowing your biological age is also important, as it can be used to determine the risk of age-related diseases or even the risk of death. In addition, it is important to know the biological age of the test subjects when developing anti-aging drugs.
In a previous study of rats and monkeys, scientists discovered that biomarkers known as 8-oxo-7,8-dihydroguanosine (or 8-oxoGsn) increased in urine samples when we grow up. This biological substance is produced by oxidation of RNA (ribonucleic acid), a process involved in biological aging.
"Oxygen byproducts created during normal metabolism can damage to oxidize biological molecules in cells, such as DNA and RNA," Jian-Ping Cai, National Genetics Center. The family in Beijing said. "As we age, we suffer from increasing oxidative damage, and thus the level of oxidative signs increases in our bodies . "
In this new study, researchers believe that this same thing is easily noticed in the urine of humans. Using a fast analytical technique called liquid chromatography - ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography, they analyzed samples collected from 1,228 people from 2 to 90 years old. Certainly, in people 21 years of age and older, there has been an increase in 8-oxoGsn in the urine.
According to Cai, this finding makes biomarkers promising as a reliable indicator for determining biological age.
This study is also related to the work of scientists from Sichuan University, described in a recent article published in Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience.
