Samsung will allow AI wallpaper creation on its touchscreen refrigerators
Samsung has announced new AI capabilities for its smart devices, including new AI-generated wallpapers for certain refrigerators.
Samsung also upgraded the AI for the Bixby voice assistant. The updated Bixby will be available on five Samsung Bespoke devices starting August 27.
The company said the AI-generated wallpapers will be available on Samsung Family Hub refrigerators released in the United States and Korea after 2022. To create a wallpaper, users will choose a theme from 7 categories and one of 6 art style. After creating a new wallpaper, it can be displayed on an external display or refrigerator whiteboard, or saved to an album for later viewing. This wallpaper will require a Wi-Fi connection and users will only be allowed to create a maximum of 5 wallpapers per day.
The improved Bixby will be able to understand complex commands, remember your previous conversations, and answer troubleshooting questions. That means you can ask your washing machine what time it's dinner and then have it finish washing an hour before, according to one of the examples Samsung listed. In another example, the company suggests asking Bixby about error codes or why your refrigerator is making a clicking noise.
However, only certain Samsung devices launching in 2024 will get the Bixby upgrade, including the Bespoke 4-Door Refrigerator with AI Family Hub, Bespoke AI Laundry Combo, and AI WindFree Gallery standalone air conditioner.
