Motorola is back in the high-end smartphone race with Edge Plus for $ 1,000
Motorola is back in the high-end smartphone race to compete with Apple and Samsung, with the newly launched Edge Plus smartphone. A long time ago, Motorola left the high-end smartphone segment open. The last time was in 2016, when Motorola launched the Moto Z smartphone and it was not very successful.
Motorola Edge Plus, priced at $ 999, is officially a competitor of today's top smartphones, like the iPhone 11 Pro or Galaxy S20. And of course, a $ 1,000 smartphone will feature the most powerful technology and performance.
Edge Plus owns a FullHD + OLED screen of 6.7 inches 90Hz, Snapdragon 865 processor supporting 5G, 12GB RAM, 256GB storage capacity and 5,000 mAh battery. There are 3 rear cameras, with 108MP main sensor. Even this smartphone still has a traditional 3.5mm jack.
All of these parameters seem very impressive and very familiar, when it comes to any high-end smartphone today. However, Motorola's Edge Plus has some differences.
The 6.7-inch OLED screen is emphasized by Motorola with big differences compared to other competitors. What the company calls an 'edge display' design, with two curved screen edges. However, unlike Samsung's Galaxy S20, the edge of the Edge Plus screen is curved to 90 degrees. That is a lot more curved, and create a sense that the bezel is almost non-existent.
Motorola uses this curved screen in a few special ways. For example, it can light up when there are notifications, messages, calls or alarms. It can also show battery percentage when you are plugged in. Gamers can also use this part of the screen to simulate the trigger on the top, in some mobile shooting games. Besides, there are a few control operations designed by Motorla.
The second highlight mentioned by Motorola is the rear camera. The 108MP sensor is not the first to appear, but not every high-end smartphone owns it. It can also combine 4 pixels into 1, into sharper 27MP resolution. In addition, Edge Plus is also capable of 6K video recording.
The design of the rear camera assembly on Edge Plus is also more elegant than current high-end smartphones, when Motorola does not use rectangular module assemblies but instead designs cameras like water droplets. And especially they do not protrude. In addition to the primary 108MP sensor is an 8MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, an ultra-wide 16MP camera with macro photography and a time-of-flight ToF sensor that measures the depth of an object. 25MP selfie camera
All of the parameters and design of the Edge Plus are impressive. However, at a price of $ 1,000, Motorola is making it difficult for itself to put this smartphone together with the iPhone 11 Pro and Galaxy S20. Whether Edge Plus can beat these two rivals, we will have to wait and see.
