Mr. Marius Nilsen - a Norwegian Progressive Party parliamentarian proposed awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to American billionaire Elon Musk for many reasons.

First, Mr. Elon Musk has "resolutely defended dialogue, freedom of speech and the ability to express one's views" in a "more polarized" world. This is shown by the billionaire's acquisition of the social network Twitter in October 2022 on the grounds that the platform has a tendency to censor users. After owning Twitter, he fired most employees and lifted the ban on many accounts, including the account of former US President Donald Trump.

The second reason Mr. Marius Nilsen gave was that Mr. Elon Musk provided the Starlink satellite communication system, allowing global communication and connectivity to help the world become a more connected and safer place.

The Nobel Peace Prize and the awards in Chemistry, Physics, Medicine and Literature are five Nobel Prizes established according to the will of Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel. Since March 1901, the Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded annually to those who have "done the most or the best work for brotherhood among nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the organization and promotion of peace conferences".

Nominees for the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize include Pope Francis, United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres, former US President Donald Trump, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and many non-governmental organizations.

The 2024 Nobel Peace Prize is expected to be announced in October.
