15 brief notes in the Covid-19 pandemic: Young people should be socially responsible
Yesterday night 11/3, World Health Organization officially declared Covid-19 is a global pandemic. This information must have made many people very worried. But panic can come with unwise decisions, in which people are too focused on what others are doing and forget the most basic and effective preventive measures they can take. .
"Describing the situation is that the pandemic does not change the WHO's assessment of the threat posed by this Corona virus. And it does not change the measures WHO is taking as well as measures that countries should take. " , WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said.
However, at the same time there are many young people - demographic subjects with low mortality rates when infected with Covid-19 - are subjective because they think that if they get sick, it will be only mild. But in fact, the subjectivity makes them the most widespread virus carriers when not taking proper precautions.
Young people who have no sense of social responsibility can infect the elderly, or people with chronic diseases with weakened immune systems, who have high mortality rates if they have Covid- 19.
In this article, let's take a look at the 15 precautions we need to take seriously during the Covid-19 season:
1. Wash your hands
This is a top note and is considered by many to be the most important expert in Covid-19. Ideally, wash your hands often with soap and clean water. While washing your hands, note that the time to scrub the soap is a minimum of 20 seconds, and that all surfaces on the hands, including the palms, back of the hands, fingers, nails and wrists, must be scrubbed.
* See more steps for proper hand washing here.
2. Use hand sanitizer
When you have to be on the street or in public areas, soap and water are not everywhere. Therefore, equipping yourself with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer is essential in Covid-19.
Note, some "natural" hand sanitizers do not contain alcohol and only moisturize the hands instead of inactivating the virus. In order to most effectively inactivate Covid-19 virus, you should choose products with one of the following ingredients and concentrations: ethanol (60% to 85%), isopropanol (60% to 80%), and n -propanol (60% to 80%).

3. Hand towels
If you use cloth towels to dry your hands after washing, wash them often. It is better to use a paper towel and put it in the wastebasket.
4. Limit handshake
Shaking hands is an act of courtesy and respect. You may consider shaking someone's hand when they are not at risk of epidemiology (not returning from an infected area, showing no fever, cough, shortness of breath). However, the best still should be limited.
5. Minimize hand touch
It is an unconscious habit and it is very difficult to quit. However, you limit to the maximum possible. Refer to some tips here that will help you.
6. Use the toilet
The Covid-19 epidemic was a time when public toilets, especially in buildings, should be kept locked. This allows people to use their feet to push the door in, instead of touching the doorknob and have to rotate it.
7. Decontamination surfaces
Unlike conventional cleaning, decontamination of surfaces is the use of chemicals such as javen water, which has antibacterial and inactivated viruses and pathogens to clean.
The Singapore Environment Agency has published a list of products and active ingredients that can kill corona viruses. Accordingly, you should choose products with one of the following ingredients:
Sodium hypochlorite (0.1 - 0.5%), 70% ethyl alcohol, Povidone-iodine (1% iodine), Chloroxylenol (0.12%), 50% isopropanol, 0.05% benzalkonium chloride (Quaternary Ammonium Compound), 50ppm iodine in iodophor, 0.23% sodium chlorite, 1% cresol soap (sodium alkyl-ben-zene sulfonate) and Hydrogen peroxide (0.5-7.0%).
* See recommendations for cleaning surfaces in public places and homes here.
8. Clean the phone
Mobile phones are probably the surface that you touch the most throughout the day. A study estimated that Covid-19 virus can survive up to 96 hours on the phone screen. Therefore, clean your phone at least once a day, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
9. Wear a mask
Facemasks help prevent disease when you wear it properly and at the right time. Wearing a mask must fit the face tightly, covering the entire nose and mouth.
The times to wear a mask are when: you yourself have symptoms of fever, cough, sneezing; must care for a family member with Covid-19 symptoms; share a room, in a small space or in close contact with less than 2 meters with someone you suspect is infected.

10. But use masks sparingly, do not hoard
Some doctors have urged people to stop buying stockpiles and use them in cases of need. This can create scarcity, leaving people most at risk of having no masks to use.
These are the medical doctors, who are at the front line of the epidemic prevention war. If the doctors are not protected and cannot work when infected, it will be a new crisis.
11. Food storage problem
Storing food is essential for people in remote areas where supplies are limited.
But in areas where food supply is not restricted, for example in Vietnam, stockpiling of food is not recommended because it can cause unnecessary panic. Overcrowding in supermarkets is also a condition that increases the risk of disease spread.
12. Drug storage issues
Like food, in remote areas, chronic patients need to store their own medication. This is especially true for people with background disease who are at high risk for Covid-19 infection, as they may need to be isolated at home for long periods.
The health system should ensure the supply of medicines, avoid the occurrence of drug scarcity or prevent patients from accessing the drugs.
13. Avoid traveling, self-isolated when returning
It is obvious that you should not travel to places considered to be epidemic areas and Covid-19 is spreading.
If you're forced to go, or have to travel, you should follow good hygiene practices, protect yourself and make honest medical declarations at destinations and when you return home. If returning from an epidemic area, isolate yourself and seek medical help.
14. Stay home when possible
Although it is an extreme measure, you must go to work, school or perform other important obligations. But staying home during the epidemic season may be the simplest and best way you can prevent it.
Elderly people and those with underlying disease are at high risk of death during the Covid-19 epidemic. Stay indoors when possible. Businesses, schools, organizations consider applying forms of distance learning and working.
15. When do I need to see a doctor?
This may be the most important question: When do you need to see a doctor or seek medical help? Most of us will be subjective to mild symptoms like the flu such as fever, cough, runny nose. Medical experts say if you experience these symptoms, you should isolate yourself at home immediately.
If you are traveling from an infected area, you need to be truthfully informed about your health right from the time you arrive to get the best medical support. Your dishonesty can affect your family, the people you are around, and the society.
People who do not return from an epidemic area without epidemiological factors but present with influenza, fever, or cough should quarantine at home and call the hotline when symptoms of severe breathing difficulty.
