Slow-motion video of 78,000 frames per second recorded the broken speed of the glass, 10 times faster than the fastest race car in the world
Glass, a material that is so familiar in people's daily lives, is certain that most of us do not know how much breakage is.
And to answer this question, the popular YouTube channel The Slo Mo Guys recently conducted tests to measure the breakage rate of glass. The two guys of this YouTube channel used a 5mm thick tempered glass (Tempered Glass), which is characterized by breaking the entire sheet when broken.
After three tests with a 7-foot glass, they calculated the average speed and recorded the close-up of the broken glass effect.
Specifically, when rotating at a rate of 78,000 frames per second, the average breakage rate of this type of glass is 1458m / s, and if there is a large enough glass plate, this speed is equivalent to 5250km / hour. It's amazing how fast it is 10 times faster than the Hennessey Venom F5, the fastest race car in the world at 484 km / h. Thus, if at this average speed, a 2m-long glass plate will be broken in just a blink of an eye.
In addition, the slow rotation speed of broken glass shows that this type of glass will spread from the center to the outside in a circle that creates an extremely beautiful effect.
