With CES 2026 underway, companies like LG and Samsung are promising to showcase their best products. This is especially true in the TV sector, where a new display technology is being introduced: Micro RGB.

Micro RGB technology isn't new at CES – it was announced by Samsung last year, and the first models debuted at IFA 2025 in September. However, we're seeing some interesting new models and ideas at CES.

Samsung stole the show.

The tech giant's idea is truly amazing.

The star of the exhibition is a massive 130-inch concept TV from Samsung with a stunning design. This TV appears to float inside a frame with an integrated sound system and looks more like a work of art than a conventional television.

Regarding the models consumers can purchase, the company will offer a range of sizes: 55, 65, 75, 85, 100, and 115 inches. This will make the new technology more accessible, as currently only the 115-inch TV option is available, costing up to $29,999. Hopefully, smaller sizes will make these TVs more suitable for a wider range of spaces and budgets, although you may still need to block ads. And don't worry if you have a tight budget – you can still have a great 4K setup without spending a fortune.

LG is also joining the game, launching its first Micro RGB models. LG will offer 75, 86, and 100-inch options. The company calls its version Micro RGB evo, but don't be confused – the technology is essentially the same.

What are the differences between Micro RGB and OLED?

How is this new technology different?

TV screen technology can be a bit confusing – there are many acronyms that look similar but are often quite different, and it's hard to know which type of screen is best. Here's a quick summary:

  • Mini LED : A type of LCD screen that uses LEDs as a backlight. This type of screen is capable of producing bright and clear images.
  • OLED and MicroLED : A type of display where each pixel is essentially a small LED emitting its own light. There is no LCD layer. These displays have much deeper blacks, and therefore much higher contrast than Mini LED displays, but often at the cost of lower brightness.

Micro RGB is essentially an evolution of Mini LED, in that it still uses a backlit LCD screen. However, the backlight is made up of smaller LEDs, each with a distinct color, instead of white. This allows for more precise control of the lighting.

The results are very promising: Although these displays cannot achieve the same contrast ratio as OLED screens, they deliver brighter images, more accurate colors, and less light leakage compared to older Mini LED displays.

These new TVs from Samsung and LG are probably just the beginning. Everyone is excited to see how these Micro RGB displays will develop over the next few years.
