Apple and OpenAI have integrated Shazam into ChatGPT, allowing users to identify songs directly within the app and create playlists with Apple Music or Spotify in just a few steps.
Apple and OpenAI are integrating the Shazam music recognition service directly into ChatGPT. Starting today, users can identify songs right within the ChatGPT app, without having to switch to the separate Shazam app on their device.
Simply enter a command like '@Shazam' or ask the AI to identify the song playing, and ChatGPT will display a microphone activation button so you can record the audio. The system uses Shazam's recognition technology , similar to that integrated into Apple devices, to analyze the audio and return results almost instantly.
Once successfully identified, the song will be displayed as a card directly in the chat window, along with a preview of the song. This display interface is designed in the familiar style of Apple Music.
Cross-platform operation, no Apple device required.
One convenient aspect of the new feature is its completely cross-platform compatibility. Users don't need to own an Apple device to use Shazam within ChatGPT.
However, if you have the standalone Shazam app installed on your phone, songs identified in ChatGPT can be saved directly to your personal Shazam library. This ensures your music discovery history won't get lost in a sea of old AI conversations.
Create playlists directly in ChatGPT
Since ChatGPT also supports integration with Apple Music, you can create new playlists directly within ChatGPT, using the newly identified song as a starting point.
Additionally, ChatGPT also supports Spotify, so you can create playlists in a similar way on Apple's rival music streaming platform.
How to activate Shazam in ChatGPT
Shazam isn't enabled by default, but the setup process is quite simple:
- Open the ChatGPT Apps section.
- Find the Shazam tool
- Connecting Shazam with ChatGPT
Alternatively, you can also visit the Shazam tools page and enable integration immediately. Once connected, the music recognition service will work on all supported devices you are using.
Currently, Shazam in ChatGPT is being rolled out globally and is available on iOS, Android, and the web version of ChatGPT.
