Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 revealed with 4.61GHz clock speed, Adreno 840 GPU and AnTuTu score exceeding 4 million, 50% higher than the previous generation.
There have been recent rumors that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 may officially launch as the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. The leak provides some details about the configuration, showing a significant improvement between the two generations – at least on paper. In particular, sources also revealed that the AnTuTu score of this new chip is 50% higher than the Snapdragon 8 Elite.
According to leaker Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the Galaxy S26 Edge test version is a 'selected' version with a performance core clock speed of 4.74GHz (compared to the default 4.61GHz in the new rumor). Meanwhile, the energy-saving cores are fixed at 3.63GHz. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 still uses a '2 + 6' CPU cluster similar to the Snapdragon 8 Elite.
In terms of GPU, Qualcomm equips Adreno 840 with a default clock speed of 1.20GHz, slightly higher than Adreno 830 (1.10GHz). TSMC's third-generation 3nm process technology has given Qualcomm more 'room' to increase the clock speed, but the actual performance on benchmarks still needs to be verified. According to rumors, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 has surpassed the 4 million AnTuTu mark.
In a quick comparison, the Android smartphone currently leading the performance rankings is the REDMAGIC 10 Pro using Snapdragon 8 Elite, reaching 2,662,615 points. If the leaked data is true, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 will be about 50% more powerful than its predecessor.
Notably, Samsung will be the only company with the privilege to launch the Galaxy S26 series with this most powerful chip, thanks to an exclusive agreement with Qualcomm. The Snapdragon Summit event will open on September 23, where Qualcomm is expected to announce more details about this very remarkable new processor line.
