Pentagon releases 162 UFO files: 'It's time for Americans to see the truth for themselves'

On May 8, the Pentagon began releasing a series of additional documents ( UFO files ) related to UFOs and UAPs (unidentified anomalies), following President Donald Trump's directive to declassify government records related to unexplained phenomena.

The first release was posted on a new Pentagon website dedicated to UFOs, including 162 files from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the U.S. War Department, NASA, and the U.S. State Department.

These documents ( UFO files ) include witness testimonies, images, and reports of unidentified flying objects, documenting incidents that occurred over several decades around the world.

"These sealed files, long classified, have fueled well-founded speculation—and it's time for the American people to see the truth for themselves," U.S. War Secretary Pete Hegseth declared when releasing the first batch of documents. You can see full UFO FILE here.

According to US officials, the documents released this time include videos of unsolved cases, along with numerous archived records from various government agencies.

Hundreds of documents, videos, and images in UFO-file

The recently released dossier includes 120 PDF files, 28 videos, and 14 images. The majority of the images capture suspicious objects appearing in the sky, as recorded by US military aircraft.

Among them, six images capture objects and phenomena observed by NASA astronauts during the Apollo 12 and Apollo 17 missions, taken from the surface of the Moon.

Approximately 20 videos documenting unidentified object sightings around the world between 2020 and 2026 have been recorded. The majority are images from infrared cameras tracking a white object that appears only as a tiny dot on the screen as it moves through the air.

According to a Pentagon report, a video filmed in Greece in 2023 shows the object making multiple 90-degree turns while moving at a speed of approximately 80 miles per hour.

Another video captured an object resembling a rugby ball in the Indo-Pacific region, while footage from Syria showed two semi-transparent, irregularly shaped orange areas, each appearing for only about two seconds.

The Pentagon released a photo it described as part of an "unexplained UAP report" from the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command in 2024, showing an unidentified flying object "shaped like a rugby ball" near Japan. (Photo: Pentagon)

Notably, an image released by the FBI, along with a witness sketch, depicts "an elliptical, copper-colored metallic object that appeared to emerge from a bright light in the sky, approximately 40-60 meters long, and then vanished almost instantly."

'Flying saucer' files from 1947

The release also includes FBI investigative records of reports involving unidentified flying objects and 'flying saucers' from 1947 to 1968.

The dossier comprises 18 separate documents, including famous case studies, photographic evidence from Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and technical proposals related to a potential propulsion system.

The photo is taken from the U.S. Air Force's 'The Roswell Report,' published on June 24, 1997, which details a possible UFO sighting in Roswell, New Mexico, in 1947. (Photo credit: U.S. Air Force/AP)

The Pentagon said the FBI had previously released a portion of this file under the code 62-HQ-83894, but this version has been redacted and includes newly declassified pages.

According to the agency, the archives reflect cases that are "unsolved, meaning the U.S. government has yet to reach a definitive conclusion about the nature of the phenomena recorded."

Of the 162 files released on May 8th, 108 still contain partially redacted information to protect the identities of witnesses, the locations of government facilities, or sensitive data related to military sites.

However, the Pentagon asserts that "no content has been edited or concealed in the records relating to information about the nature or existence of any reported encounters as UAPs or related phenomena."

Continue declassifying in batches.

The Pentagon's UFO website states that new documents will continue to be released in batches as they are discovered and declassified, at a frequency of every few weeks.

In February, President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social demanding that the Pentagon and related agencies release records on UFOs as well as any information related to 'aliens and extraterrestrial life'.

However, in a report published in 2024, the Pentagon emphasized that there is no evidence to suggest that US government investigations confirm the existence of extraterrestrial life.
