Classification of poisonous snakes in Vietnam

In order to identify what is a venomous snake, we mainly focus on external characteristics such as color, head and body shape, tooth structure. Accordingly, in Vietnam, there are 2 extremely poisonous snake families: tiger and green snake.

Green snake family

1. Green-horned snake

This snake is so called because it has scales on the eyelids that grow into two raised horns. This frightening-looking snake has only been discovered in the high mountains of Vietnam and has not yet appeared in other parts of the world.

2. Red-tailed red snakes

Red-tailed red snakes are the most poisonous snakes in the snake family. Their whole body is green and the tail is reddish-brown. In the snake family, only the red-tailed green snake is the baby. During pregnancy, the mother snake is extremely aggressive and its venom is highly concentrated.

3. Vongen green snake or Southern green snake

This is an extremely poisonous snake. Its head and body are green, and the abdomen is lighter. They often live in bushes and low groves in hilly and mountainous areas with elevations between 900-1500m. Southern snakes often live in Gia Lai, Dong Nai and Lam Dong in Vietnam.

4. Silver-headed green snake

The snake has a white head with two striking black stripes. Silver-headed serpent is found at altitudes of 800-1800m in Cao Bang, Lang Son and Vinh Phuc provinces.

5. Cruel snake

The indigo snake is also known as the remote wood or Malay snake snake, the green snake usually lives in the rubber forest in the southeast of our country. This is a very poisonous and rare snake. The snake is brown or reddish brown, its body length is about 100cm, and its head is triangular. Along the spine are symmetrical brown triangles like butterfly wings. Their appearance is quite similar to that of pythons so it is easy to be confused and easily cause unfortunate accidents.

6. Chongqing snakes

It is an endemic snake species of Trung Khanh, Cao Bang in our country, living at an altitude of 500 - 700m in the evergreen forests and tropical limestone rainforest. The Chongqing snakes are about 70cm long, the color of the dorsal surface and the head are pale gray.

They cobra

1. King cobra or rattan cobra

This snake is dubbed the king of the cobra with its speed of movement and its ability to hunt. The head and back of the cobra are usually grayish-brown or black, the lower part of the abdomen is light yellow or white. They have 2 large scales on the top of the head and large protruding eyes.

This venomous snake usually lives in dense plateau forests, humid tropical forests, rain forests, grasslands, lakes or streams .

2. Earth tiger snake

Earth cobra is also known as earth-cobra, cobra, cobra. When the neck is solid, there is a light circle on the neck on the dorsal side, on the sides there are 2 white bands, in the middle there is a dark brown mark.

In some earth cobra, one or both of the long white ones can be excreted more or less. The abdomen of the neck has a wide, dark horizontal band. The color on the back is usually dark brown or yellowish green with small horizontal lines slightly light.

3. The hot snake snake or the snakes roaring tomorrow

This is a relatively large poisonous snake, whose body size is usually over 1m long. The head is large and short, the eyes are relatively small and round, the tail is short, the tail is rounded, the middle of the back has a very clear edge. The body has black and gold rings that are approximately equal in size and alternating.

4. Scorpion snake

This snake has a slender head and eyes with round pupils. They also have different color chambers like hot scorpions, but their colors are black and white and gray. Along the spine is covered with a smooth, shiny hexagonal scales. They have triangular cross-sections and are flat on the back-hips and the tails are narrowed into sharp points.

They live in grasslands and bushland forests.

5. Snake tiger cat or Siamese cobra

The elongated, brown-gray head is distinctly distinguished from the neck, the gray-brown back from the rear half-body to the tail end with irregular-sized black lines running across the body. The abdomen is yellow, the posterior margin of abdominal scales and the scales beneath the tail have a black border.
