Since 2009, Google has always used the name of a pastry to set for the new operating system. Therefore, many people have suggested that Android Q, the latest version of Google's operating system to be released later this month, is no exception. But unexpectedly happened when the new Android will be called simply Android 10 only.
The reason why Google decided to give up the naming method is because they are concerned about the user's reading comprehension problem.
Kaori Miyake, Android communications manager at Google, said: 'We have received a lot of feedback from users about Android's names that are not always easy to understand for people around the globe .
Android is presenting over 2.5 billion devices globally, so many users find it hard to understand that each version of this operating system is named after an American dessert. For example, 'Pie' is a pastry dish made in the US but for New Zealanders and British, they think it is a meat dish.
The English alphabetical naming also makes it difficult for non-English speaking users to understand.
Therefore, Google decided Android Q would be called simply Android 10 and they would stick with the naming convention that only had numbers. After 10 will be 11.
Google has also recently made another update to help users recognize the Android operating system, which is "android" in the logo of the new operating system, which will change from green to black. This color shift is intended to help users with visual impairments more readable.
Google also announced a new set of colors for the Android brand that has a higher contrast ratio to help improve readability in all conditions that the logo appears.
Android 10 will be officially launched by Google in the next few weeks but the specific time has not been announced yet.
